BP or not BP

People will be mad at this - because it's never popular to blame ourselves - but it always amazes me that people NEVER take responsibility for their purchase habits, and whatever consequences that causes. See, when the blackout occurred in manhattan (and most of the east coast, all the way up to canada), people were furious. The mayor went on TV to demand an explanation from ConEd. And the ConEd spokesperson came and shut everybody up, saying "listen - we've been trying to build sub-stations forever. The demand for electricity goes up every summer - we know it, and we try to fix this before it becomes catastrophic, like these past days. But everytime we try to build a new one, people oppose to it - saying "not here, not near my house" - as in "near somebody else's house I don't mind, but I don't want it here". That'd be great, if instead of running 5 AC units in each house 24/7, they'd also cut back on their energy use. But nobody wants to sacrifice anything - and now, we're paying the price for it." - and IT'S TRUE - I've seen dozens of them coming to my house in queens to ask me to sign a petition to "keep the bad coned people out of our neighborhood". So, as far as this BP mess goes, it's the same BS - people want cheaper gas all the time, and they don't want to sacrifice their independence and big cars - so we all drive alone, most of the time, and drive for everything. I don't think BP is doing nothing on purpose - the crap broke, and it's in a depth that is almost impossible to fix it fast. Of course, they could've drill three holes so two would be "safeguards" for - and IF - something like this happened. The price of the gallon being extracted probably wouldn't make sense, though. You get it? WE made the "big, bad corporation" work. We didn't ask if they were being extra safe when drilling, before we use their gas. Because we don't care. I mean, now we do, because pointing fingers is a national pastime - so why wouldn't we, right? Same goes for any deal out there - you don't care that the pair of sneakers you buy is half the price of the other one, and same quality - you don't stop to think: "wait a minute - how do they pull this off?", because then it would mean you might find out that kids are being used overseas to work for next to nothing, so that that company can transfer the savings TO YOU... people, WE ARE responsible for this as much as anybody else...
